The Indian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Shri Navdeep Suri, distributed the prizes at the second edition of the Ambassador’s Cup, an innovative football competition for Indian schoolgirls studying in various schools in the United Arab Emirates, held on 31st Jan 2019, at two venues simultaneously.

This one dayevent was hosted by the Credence High School in Al Quoz for Girls 14 and the GEMS Modern Academy in Nad al Sheba for Girls 19.

This tournament was organized with prime objective of using sports to empower girls build a better and brighter future for them. Working closely with Soccer Foundation India, Chairman - Bikram Singh Thockchom, who expressed his belief that through the Ambassador’s Cup efforts to propagate girls football in schools would become a reality and, in the process, create more effective and meaningful opportunities through training, tournaments and tours.  As part of the bigger picture, he added that this one-day football festival aims to initiate, encourage and motivate our Indian schoolgirls to take part in the beautiful game of soccer and create a momentum in the years ahead to take India to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027.

This second edition was supported by a total of 38 Indian School Teams with the main sponsor being the LULU Group and associate sponsors being APPAREL Group (Official Kit Supplier), Royal Catering – BRS Ventures (Official Food & Beverage sponsor) and Indigo Airlines (Official Airlines)

The under 14 runner up was The Indian High School, Dubai and the winning trophy went to Gems Modern Academy, Dubai.  The under 19 runner up was The Millennium School, Dubai and the winning team was Al Diyafah High School, Dubai.

The winning teams at both levels will participate in the Doon Cup in April 2019 in Dehradun and be provided with monetary assistance for travel and participation. Interestingly the Doon Cup will create further opportunities for selection for the Indian team at the largest international youth tournament i.e. the DANA Cup in Denmark in July 2019.

Ambassador Shri Navdeep Suri congratulated the winners and expressed hope that the Ambassador’s Cup would create a buzz and excitement in girls in Indian Schools in the UAE and back home, and will encourage the girls to participate for the joyous experiences that the beautiful game offers. He also believed that this gender equality campaign in the United Arab Emirates would create the impetus for the Indian community and the Indian Schools Management to take ownership and help showcase the nation’s progress towards a healthier and fairer future for all.
