Marriages solemnized at the Embassy are between two individuals, at least one of whom is an Indian citizen with a UAE employment/residence visa issued from Abu Dhabi/ Al Ain. Certain procedural formalities are to be completed before the marriage is solemnized.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SOLEMNIZATION OF MARRIAGE UNDER THE FOREIGN MARRIAGE ACT, 1969

  1. At least one of the parties must be an Indian national and must have residence visa of Abu Dhabi/ Al Ain.
  2. Notice of intended marriage (5 Nos.).
  3. Declaration by bridegroom and bride (2 Nos.)
  4. Sworn Affidavit (to be filled separately by prospective bride and bridegroom.
  5. Five identical recent passport size photographs (each of bridegroom and bride)
  6. a) If the Indian national intending to get married is single and holds valid residence/employment visa of Abu Dhabi/ Al Ain, the individual should produce an affidavit of singleness attested through IVS Global services.
    b) If the Indian national intending to get married is single and is on visit visa, he/she should produce a bachelorhood certificate as explained below:
    A certificate of bachelorhood/single-status/eligibility to get married can be issued by a competent court/SDM having jurisdiction of the area of the residential address of the applicant. This can be in the form of a certificate/affidavit notarized by SDM which is required to be counter-attested by the Home Department of the State concerned. Thereafter, it is to be attested/apostilled by the Attestation Section of the Consular, Passport & Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi or the concerned MEA Branch Secretariat.     c) Indian national who is divorced: In case of an Indian national who is divorced, he/she should produce the divorce certificate attested by Home Department of the State from which the divorce certificate has been issued. Thereafter, it is to be attested/apostilled by the Attestation Section of the Consular, Passport & Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi or the concerned MEA Branch Secretariat.
  7. Foreign national, who has never been married earlier: If one of the parties is not an Indian national and has never been married earlier, No objection Certificate/ Affidavit (in respect of individual regarding his/her marital status and willingness to marry an Indian) from the concerned Embassy/Consulate in the UAE duly attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE.
    Foreign national, who is divorced: In case of a foreign national who is divorced, he/ she should produce the divorce certificate attested from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country and subsequently attested from the concerned Embassy/ Consulate in UAE duly attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE.
  8. Three witnesses (holding residence Visa of UAE) with their valid passports.
  9. All the five persons are required to appear before Marriage Officer for their respective signatures with their original passports and a photocopy both at the time of submission of form and at the time of solemnization of marriage (photocopy required only at the time of submission of forms).
  10. After submission of forms, newspaper advertisement is to be given by the individuals in local English Newspaper as well as English Newspaper in the place of permanent residence indicated in the passport in India/concerned Country. Text of advertisement is as under
    Mr. _________ holder of _________ Passport bearing No. ___________ issued at ___________ on ____________ and Ms._______________ holder of __________ Passport bearing No. _____________ issued at_______________on ______________ intend getting married at Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi under the Indian Foreign Marriage Act, 1969.   11. All the particulars must be filled in as per individual’s passport.
  12. The procedure may take a minimum period of 45 days from date of publication of advertisement.
