Roles and Responsibilities
The Community Affairs Wing of the Embassy provides assistance to the Indian nationals approaching for help.
Upon receiving complaints from Indian workers regarding employment related issues, the Embassy takes up the matter on case-to-case basis with the employer and local UAE authorities for early redressal or resolution.
Assistance is provided to the workers, including female domestic workers in distress, in obtaining required exit clearances from UAE authorities and in completion of their exit formalities for early repatriation.
Assistance including short term boarding and lodging, air ticket for repatriation to India, emergency medical help and legal assistance is also provided since 2009 on means tested basis under the relevant sections of the ICWF.
The Embassy provides assistance in the transportation of Mortal remains of Indian nationals from ICWF when employer/sponsor is unable to pay the expenses. The death compensation cases are also followed up with the employer/ concerned court till the family of the deceased get their compensation.
The Embassy also takes up issues being faced by families of Indian residents in UAE with the concerned authorities back in India by forwarding such complaints of NRI's to the concerned State authorities for appropriate action. The investigation reports/information received from State authorities are conveyed to the complainant.
For marital dispute cases, necessary advice/guidance are provided through legal experts in PBSK. Embassy officials also visits jails, hospitals, Immigration authorities, labour authorities, police stations, etc for enquiring regarding whereabouts/ well-being of Indian nationals and liaising with the concerned local authorities for redressal of problems and grievances faced by Indian nationals in UAE.
As part of the Embassy’s outreach programs, the Embassy regularly organises various camps for the benefit of Indian workers in the Embassy, workers accommodation and other venues.
The Embassy regularly interacts with various social and cultural Indian Community organizations for promotion of Indian culture and traditions.
Registration of Foreign Employers in eMigrate portal and attestation of employment contracts as per the provisions of Emigration Act and Emigration Rules is also done by the Embassy.
The Embassy conducts various awareness camps for Indian workers as well as regularly organises ‘Open House’ for all Indian nationals to meet the concerned officials in the Embassy without prior appointment.
The Embassy also shares the data of unscrupulous agents with Ministry and POEs on regular basis for suitable action against them in India.
Further, various facilities have been put in place for providing all required assistance to the Indian nationals approaching the Embassy for help. The Embassy is also having a dedicated 24x7 emergency helpline number exclusively for housemaids in distress. The PBSK (Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra ) 24x7 toll free call centre and mobile app is also available for the Indian nationals in distress including workers who can connect with the Mission or Post and register their grievances, send queries and receive free legal, psychological or financial counselling from PBSK.
The Embassy also has empanelled law firms which take up labour issues for nominal fees. The details of the empanelled law firms are shared below:
